Sauerkraut in a new way
However, it’s yummy and a nice way to eat Sauerkraut!
How to make this gratin? Well, get the groceries and start! …It takes a little time, though…
For four, you need:
about 600 g of potatoes
about 600 g of Sauerkraut (I used canned Sauerkraut)
a glass of white wine (nice excuse to open a bottle!)
1 bay leaf
juice of 1/2 lemon
100 g sour cream
paprika, salt, pepper
Peel the potatoes, cut them in rounds, boil them in salted water.
Chop the onions, sauté them in oil in a pot. When translucent, add the sauerkraut, the wine and the spices. Reduce the heat, cover with a lid, let it simmer for about 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven (175°C)
In a large casserole (=Auflaufform), distribute the potatoes evenly. Then make a layer of Sauerkraut.
In a blender, blend the apples with the lemon juice. Mix with sour cream and eggs. Season with salt, pepper and paprika. Pour this mix over the sauerkraut and bake it for about 30-40 minutes.
