It’s tea-time

No, it’s not just tea. It’s chai. Better than any chai you can buy. (And what rhymes, it’s good! Says Pumuckl.)

I got the recipe from “Sundays at Moosewood’s” – a book from the Moosewood restaurant in Ithaca, NY –  I don’t know their restaurant, but I do love their books. Easy and interesting vegetarian kitchen, these books are the most used cookbooks in my kitchen.

For this chai, I always omit the coriander seeds the recipe asks for – just  for the simple reason that I don’t have any…

For one cup you need:

1 cup of water

a little piece of fresh ginger root, peeled and cut in small pieces
some peppercorns (black pepper; maybe 3-4)
2-3 cardamom pods
a little piece of a cinnamom stick
3 cloves

1 tea bag of black tea

Milk, sugar

Heat the water with all the spices and let simmer for about 20 minutes – the longer you let it simmer, the spicier it get’s! Then add the tea bag and wait some minutes before you pour everything through a strainer and drink it with milk and sugar! (Or honey. Or whatever you want.)
